One of Baths Leading independent florists is to be represented at The Chelsea Flower Show by one of its Junior Members of Staff.
Liz Phillips, 19, from Hinton Charterhouse will be representing The Floral Touch, Bear Flat, in The RHS Young Chelsea Florist of the Year 2009. After competing in the South West heat in January, Liz won her place at Chelsea by creating a unique, textured and interesting wedding bouquet for a local fashion designer. Liz who has worked at The Floral Touch for the past two years also attends part time Lackham College, Lacock, where she is in the final year of her Advanced National Certificate in Floristry course. For the final at Chelsea Liz will have to create a flamboyant floral hat in which fresh flowers, foliage and plant material must predominate. The judges will be looking for the highest standard in Floral Design and the sensitive use of Modern Techniques.
Liz’s employer Joanne Swanson, who owns the Floral Touch, said “This is a fantastic achievement by Liz and a great opportunity to showcase where professional floristry is heading on a National and International Level and compete against the top Junior Florists in the country, To get to Chelsea at such a young age is testament to Liz’s design skills and determination, we will all be supporting Liz and looking forward to the hearing the results when they are announced.
Joanne who has successfully owned and run The Floral Touch for the past 15 years is also in the final of two professional floristry competitions to be Held at RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park, Cheshire in July.
She is a Finalist In the “2009 Teleflorist Designer Championship” and also finalist in the “Society of Floristry Florist of the Year 2009”. |
